Over 900 European Kiwanians converged to Paris last July to attend the combined 50th European and 102nd International conventions. It was the first time that the Kiwanis International and Europe conventions were held concurrently. A real success for the European Federation as nearly half of the participants in the combined conventions came from Europe. Moreover, the last European convention which gathered more Kiwanians than this one took place 16 years ago in Salsomaggiore!
“I am particularly happy and proud to see the motivation and dedication of European Kiwanians in making this event a real success. There is a lot to be proud of with France-Monaco being third top district in opening new clubs, Italy-San Marino reaching fourth place (together with Nepal) and Belgium-Luxembourg also being part of the top club openers. Not to forget about Romania who, in the past two years has seen a 40 percent growth in membership”, said Sjoerd Timmermans, 2016-2017 KI-EF President. “Furthermore, with the election of Daniel Vigneron as vice president and Chris Decorte as European vice president, I am confident that Europe will continue to focus on strengthening and growing the Kiwanis family to help the ever-increasing needs of the children”, added Timmermans.
For those who did not attend and like to see the speech during the opening session, they can watch it here. BMC Chairman Axel took a lot of photo’s in Paris. Here are the link to the albums: Opening Session, KI-EF General Assembly, KI General Assembly and Closing Session.
In 2018, the 51st European convention will take place 25—28 May in the beautiful town of Baveno, on the west shore of Lago Maggiore, Italy; the 103rd Kiwanis International convention will take place June 28–July 1 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Stay tuned for more information to come over the coming weeks and months.
