The opening ceremony, on Friday, May 25, 2018, of our Kiwanis European Federation Convention will be boosted up by the presence of young Syrian Mohamad Al Jounde, International Children Peace Prize.
Aged only 16, Mohamad Al Jounde was rewarded for his remarkable work with children deprived with school attendance and wandering in a refugee camp in Lebanon. Being a refugee himself, he distinguished himself, aged only 12 years old, by creating classes and giving courses himself.
Come listen to his story at the opening session!
Earlier in the day, from 15:00 to 16:00, there will be a workshop dedicated to the HAPPY CHILD project where you can discover the latest developments and ask questions. Mohamad Al Jounde will also be present at the workshop and you will also be able to meet him, give him messages of encouragement or ask him questions. For a good organization and preparation, given his young age, please send your questions before May 10th, to Josy Glatigny, Happy Child Chair, at email@example.com
On the occasion of the visit of 26 members and partners to Vienna a great musical evening was held at the Imperial Pallavicini Palace on Saturday, 2017 December 9 with the participation of 5 Kiwanis clubs from Wien, among which KI Past-President Gunter Gasser, a magistrate from the city of Wien, a United Nations councilor and the Habsburg family secretary. A great moment that will remain engraved in our memories and a very rich exchange with our Kiwanian friends from KC Wien 1, first club in Europe in 1963.
Making such visits is a great way to communicate with our neighbors in Europe, we all go in the same direction, serve the children of the world, with different but equally effective methods.
KC Dinan Pays de Rance, created in 2000, consists of 28 members Most remarkable event organised for fundraising are the Nautical Joutes in the port of Dinan, with 8000 people present, this beside a great number of other traditional fundraising activities. A lot of efforts which were appreciated by the District Board.
Yann Eveillard, Director of Communication KC Dinan Pays de Rance

Growth and meetings with the Governors. Before the Christmas holidays, I had a series of Go-to-meeting contacts with all Governors to get information about the health status of the districts. I’m happy because all the governors have shown great enthusiasm and considerable attention to the growth (there are already 8 new clubs born).
About growth, Romania is deserving a special mention. They have plans to create at least 12 new clubs with an increase of about 200 members. If this happens, Romania will certainly be our 10th district. We wish them all the best and I also thank the France-Monaco District for the excellent work they are doing in Romania. We should watch carefully and learn from this example !
All the committees are working and, above all, the Committee on Formula with NDB and SLP / YP who are also involved in the organization of the Growth summit in March where the International President Jim and the Executive Director Stan will be present.
A special mention goes to the Happy Child Committee who is very active. Here too, some districts are emerging: Belgium-Luxembourg, which has activated a very strong service development program in collaboration with the SOS Village Association to help refugee children in Syria, and the Italy-San Marino District, which has created a whole series of initiatives (some “sweets” such as the collaboration with the “Chocolate of Modica” company that has made available a large number of chocolate bars to be marketed with the Happy Child logo).
Romania is also active in the Service Happy Child that, with the Past Governor Jeana Spranceana, they are taking action in Galati in a center where refugee children without parents are gathered. The Kiwanis Members offer these children all kinds of assistance.
The other districts are organizing work and projects and will certainly start their business very soon.
The Transition Task Force gathered in Brussels last January with members of both KI and KI-EF Leadership in order to present, discuss and exchange points of view and proposals with regard to the constitution of a legal entity and structure for Kiwanis in Europe. We had a good and fruitful meeting, where requests and concerns from Europe and America were expressed and discussed. Our work towards reaching the most appropriate structure for our organization needs to be continued. When we meet in Baveno next May, we should be able to share with the membership the progress and the achieved results. I wish to take this opportunity to warmly thank all members of the Task Force and in particular, our bylaws advisor Manfred Puchner and Nathalie Weber-Frisch, chair of KI-EF’s Bylaws Committee, for the hard work and their commitment in this important project.
Last but not least the KI-EF Convention. With the committee, aided a lot by Dolores, we are working on the planning of Baveno Convention. Almost everything is now ready to receive the delegates and guests worthily. Registration is open and already many members have registered. Then let’s go to Baveno, my friends, whereon the lake and with the special Italian food we can craft the future of the Kiwanis in Europe.
There where usually the DOT is an end of January event, it now took place in the Pancake weekend in Prague.
More than 50 elected officers from each District and Nation were represented. They enjoyed the one and a half day of intensive raining given by our Members of the Committee on Training, in fact professional trainers.
Separate workshops were held for Secretaries, Treasurers and Governors Elect with for each quite useful info to fulfill their job next year, combined with general sessions where large info about KI-EF was spread out.
As we received but few feedback we can but conclude that anything was pico bello OK. And that’s the way (ahha ahha) we like it !
Thanks to JPS for transmitting pictures
For confirmation here a late reaction received from the Netherlands G-E Peter Pietersen
It was a good and interesting weekend during the DOT in Prague together with the European G-E, treasurers en secretaries. Most of the classes were joined, but on the Saturday morning the G-E had there own training. I want to thank all trainers, but especially Sietske Hoving and Jan van Hove for there inspiring lectures. The organization by the KI-EF Training Committee and the Ghent office was flawless.
Just notice that the teambuilding was also important, as well during the training as at the bar in the evening. We exchanged many good ideas.
Since a few years “Kiwanis Children’s Fund “, organizes once a year a meeting of information – discussion and strategical training for their KIEF KCF Ambassadors and District Chairs.
As known , each Kiwanian is a member of Kiwanis Children’s Fund as a member of Kiwanis International. Kiwanis International and Kiwanis Children’s fund have their specific mission. KI is our great administrator and KCF is the executor of our mission “Serving the Children of the world”. We have to learn to be a member of an International organisation. For this reason we have the duty to support our own Kiwanis Children’s Fund and to work on the help and needs of Children all over the world.
The participants were instructed about the five headliners within KCF:
Service Leadership programs
District and Club service projects
The Eliminate project
Elimination of Iodine Deficiency Disorders
You will soon hear more from your District Chair.
“Let each Kiwanian and each Kiwanis club be proud to be a part of our great organization ‘ Kiwanis International’ to Serve the Children of the World. Bear witness to your heart and your club commitment and spare a part of your budget to support the Kiwanis Children’s Fund.”
“The Kiwanis Children’s Fund develops resources that transform the goodwill and vision of Kiwanians into programs that serve the children of the world” .
Filip Delanote, your KCF Trustee
