European Federation
The European Federation
It was not until 1961 that Kiwanis International decided to begin expansion to countries around the world. It was very important decision and had to be carried out carefully.
Not only was important to begin the process of building clubs, international understanding was at least as important.
We did not have many Kiwanis clubs in Europe when our members began to discuss the possibility of creating a European organization. They did already experience cultural differences, and communication problems between North America and Europe. Very soon they began to work closely together and through closer relation they were able to have more influence on Kiwanis International.
The European organization has now two guaranty seats on the Board of Trustees of Kiwanis International. They are elected at the European Federation Convention. They are the voice of Europe at Kiwanis International Board Meetings and report to the European Federation about decisions made by the international leadership.
This structure has created a better international understanding and a stronger relation between clubs around the globe.
Kiwanis International is a worldwide organization, already active in more than 80 countries and ‘new countries’ are added to the Kiwanis Family every year.
